Learn to blacksmith by making a camping hatchet. Students will be guided in using flat iron, 2 1/2" x 1/2" for the handle then forge welding that to 01 tool steel for the hatchet cutting edge. After welding and shaping, the sides will be ground, the edge tapered, the tool hear treated and tempered. The final step is sharpening the edge.
Bring a bag lunch and closed lid bottle of water. Wear closed toe shoes, long pants and sleeves. Cotton clothing only (no synthetics - even shoes) Leather aprons are best but optional. This class will be held indoors.
