Inviting Businesses to Harness the Potential of Aging Communities

September 4 2024 --We are living longer, healthier lives: 1 in 3 Iron Range Community members are 65 or older, which surpasses the number of children 18 and under. Businesses and communities can establish innovative ways and creative solutions to harness the potential of older customers as well as an aging workforce. The Arrowhead Area Agency on Aging (AAAA) is inviting regional businesses and organizations to participate in an upcoming Age-Friendly Business training, aimed at promoting inclusivity and harnessing the potential of older adults as consumers and workers in our communities. With an aging population, businesses that adapt to the needs of older adults can tap into a lucrative and expanding market segment. Age-Friendly practices not only accommodate older adults but also appeal to all who value inclusivity and accessibility. By participating in this program, businesses will gain valuable insights and resources, enabling businesses to thrive in an aging society.
The Age-Friendly Arrowhead Business Program provides valuable information on changing demographics, the economic contributions of older adults, ageism and its effects in the workplace, how to best support working caregivers, and components of Age-Friendly businesses. These components encompass marketing strategies, creating an Age-Friendly environment, enhancing customer experience, implementing effective hiring and staffing practices, and utilizing available resources.
“As the fastest growing demographic in the U.S., older adults are major contributors to our economy. The shift in demographics is unleashing exponential growth in every industry. We know that businesses and community organizations have a vital role to play in creating an Age-Friendly society," said Kristi Kane, Interim Director of the Arrowhead Regional Development Commission. "Through the Age-Friendly Arrowhead Business Program, we aim to support, recognize and celebrate those who are making a positive impact on the lives of older adults in our region."
Businesses interested in joining this cohort of the Age-Friendly Arrowhead Business Program are invited to apply now. The training will be held on October 15th at Minnesota North College in Hibbing from 12:00-2:00 pm. This training is FREE and lunch will be provided. Quarterly virtual/hybrid trainings will follow.
